Lizardfolk Tribe (Neth (XI) 27th-Kuthona (XII) 2nd, 4708 AR)

On Neth 27, a lizardfolk came out of the forest and threw a spear into the fort. The lizardfolk was gone before any of the guards could respond, although they spent some time futilely searching for him. Wrapped around the crude spear were a number of bone trinkets and a crude message written on the bark of its shaft. The message, written in Draconic, called for a “conclave of the mighty” in 4 days in the “Sacred Swamp of the Turessk Tribe”. Not surprisingly, Sir Tolgrith wanted to send the heroes on his behalf, with instructions to reach a peaceful settlement with the lizardfolk. His scouts had informed him that the lizardfolk numbered in the hundreds, making them a force that should not be angered. By this time, the path passed close to the swamp, making the journey quite easy.

When 4 days had passed and the heroes were at the swamp, they found a band of lizardfolk approaching them. The lizardfolk were all dressed in ceremonial necklaces and had small bones piercing their snouts. The heroes were formally invited on behalf of Kassmak, Chief of the Turessk Tribe. After 2 hours of travel, the group reached the meeting place.

A great mound of mud and stone came into view ahead of the heroes, bedecked with the skeletons of numerous swamp predators. A hole, covered by a leather flap, revealed it to be some sort of great dome.

Inside the mound was a great pool of still, dark water on which burned a bright flame. Opposite the entrance stood a tall throne made of animal bones. Chief Kassmak sat in the throne, striking an impressive figure clad in ceremonial bones and trinkets. The chief motioned for the heroes to sit on large mounds of swamp reeds.

After the heroes were seated, the chief greeted them in broken Common, with prolonged “s” sounds. The chief then asked who among them was the chief who spoke for the “soft skins”. He then asked them why they had come to his valley. Kassmak made it clear his people had claimed this area and they should be compensated for the right of passage. The results of these negotiations were resolved with an impassioned argument by Zemurin. As a result, Kassmak was not worried about Fort Thorn and agreed to let them live in the vale but forbid them from entering the swamp.
