Tirana's Lair, Part 7 (Desnus (V) 1st, 4709 AR)

The heroes continued their exploration.

A River Runs Through It. The water pouring into this room is contaminated. The water disrupted the flesh of the heroes the first time they were completely immersed in it. The creatures that lived in this room seemed to be immune. The waterfall occupied the area of the channel closest to the western wall.

The creatures used the dangerous water to their advantage, grappling the heroes and then entering the water. The creatures fought to the death to defend their home. The bottom of the channel was the creatures' nest, which included several noteworthy items, including a brooch of shielding (94 points left), a belt of incredible dexterity +2, a searing arrow and 5 gp.

Floating Staircase. The door here opens into empty space within an enormous cylinder twenty-five feet across. Narrow stone blocks float magically in the tube’s center, unconnected and unsupported, creating a spiral staircase to the floor sixty feet below.

Standing on or moving at normal speed down these stairs requires some degree of care. It takes 45 feet of movement (circumscribing a 15-foot-square) to descend 20 vertical feet and reach a point directly underneath the starting square.

An invisible creature armed with a ring of the ram guarded this chamber. The invisible creature ambushed the heroes partway down the stairs. The invisible creature used its ring of the ram in an attempt to knock Aranthor off of the stairs, and then used its slams. The invisible creature fought to the death to defend this room. As soon as the invisible creature was slain, its depleted ring of the ram fell to the floor with an audible clink.

Divide and Conquer. This T-shaped room contains three pedestals bearing large switches. Unlike the rest of the complex, the floor here is made of riveted sheets of metal. To the north and south, large steel double doors keep with the theme, with decorative rivets marking the silhouette of an owl.

As soon as Gryxxa touched the doors to the south, both sets of doors immediately closed and locked. To get them open, all three switches had to be flipped at the same time. Doing so unlocked the doors, but also sprung the second half of the trap. Immediately upon the throwing of switches, immobile, blazing curtains of shimmering violet fire sprung into existence, dividing the room into three sections. In addition, three summoned fire elementals appeared, one near each switch, and attacked the heroes. As soon as the fire elementals were destroyed or banished, the curtains of fire ended.

The summoned elementals stationed themselves in front of both sets of doors. The elementals fought to the death.
