Pirate Double-Cross (Lamashan [X] 4th, 4707 AR)

When the heroes finally exited the loathsome shrine, it looked like the sun itself decided to celebrate the Pathfinders’ victory over the evil denizens of the mound. But the sun didn’t come alone: Lady Riverbane and eight of her rough pirate flunkies also awaited the party.

“Well,” said the jet-haired pirate woman, lips twisted in a grin. “Shiver me timbers! Look who made it out alive. I hoped the crawling horrors would be the end of you, but I suppose vermin don’t eat each other.” Riverbane spit on the moss-covered ground before continuing. “Why do Pathfinders always have to meddle in what doesn’t concern them?” Pulling out an ancient-looking tome from a pouch, she threw it unceremoniously in the mud. “Fools! All this for a book …” She erupted in laughter. “Bazzak dies tomorrow and you die today! KILL THEM!”

Farl and Zukka, whom the heroes saved the previous day, retreated inside the tunnel, leaving the fighting to the heroes. The glade where this skirmish took place was an open space free of any notable features.

The pirates kept the heroes busy while Riverbane rained deadly magic on them. The pirates fought to the death.

Riverbane stayed at the back, targeting the heroes with grease spells or her wand of magic missile. Riverbane didn't admit defeat even when it stared her in the face. She would have fought to the death, but the heroes took her prisoner.

The book Riverbane tossed to the ground was indeed Memoirs of the Silver Brotherhood.

With Riverbane captured, the heroes returned to the Scrag Fisher. Two pirates were still on board and accepted the heroes' story of how Riverbane was hurt in a battle (without mentioning it was against the heroes). The Scrag Fisher was on its way back to Deadbridge while the heroes were interrogating Riverbane.
