When the king was threatened, the sprites fought to the death. The King of Roses did not know defeat and also fought to the death.

The plates and silverware on the table were made of gold and worth 500 gp as a set. In addition, the 8 bottles of wine on the table were a special fey wine worth 50 gp per bottle.

The pool of water at the nursery glistened because of all of the silver coins and other shiny trinkets tossed inside. In total, there were 3,400 sp in the pond and another 200 gp worth of small silver trinkets such as silverware, lockets, goblets, bracelets, and necklaces. All of the coins bore the markings of the Empire of Cheliax (making them several hundred years old).

The Hive. An odd buzzing noise filled the room the moment the door opened, revealing a chamber covered in waxy hexagons. Moving through the chamber was a swarm of gigantic bees that looked up menacingly.

The walls and ceiling of this chamber were covered in honeycomb large enough for a Small character to crawl inside. The bees entered and exited this chamber through a shaft in the ceiling.

These bees were hostile toward any who invaded their hive. They moved to attack the moment either door opened. While only 4 bees attacked at any one time, there were a total of 12 bees in the hive and one joined the fight within moments after a bee was slain.

The bees swarmed the nearest target each round. They fought to the death in their hive.

While the bees kept no treasure, their especially sweet honey was quite valuable. Each pound of honey was worth 10 gp. There were a total of 50 pounds of honey.

Private Chambers. A large carpet of roses dominated the center of this room. A gently bubbling cauldron sat in one corner, while a simple wooden table resided against the far wall, covered in alchemical gear. A small chest sat alone in one corner. The carpet was not magical, but its thorns were like caltrops.

The sturdy hardwood chest was locked. The key hung from the king’s belt. Inside was a trio of velvet-lined boxes. One of them contained four fey ears, while the other two were empty. In addition, a bloody sack contained 10 human ears. Along with the human ears was a large tome written in an unknown language. One of the pages was dog-eared. Finally, 1,200 gp in loose coins and 6 diamonds worth 100 gp each littered the bottom of the chest. All of the coins bore the markings of the Empire of Cheliax.

After the heroes dealt with the fey, Sir Tolgrith congratulated them on their work. He then went on to explain several other problems facing him. The first was a need for more natural resources. Sir Tolgrith asked the heroes to keep an eye out for any such commodities they come across while on their travels. Scouts reported finding darkwood in the forests and precious metals in the hills. While their finds had not been substantial, Gyrad hoped the heroes might have more luck. Another pressing problem was owlbears. These hungry predators roamed in the forests south of the fort and Sir Tolgrith was worried they might slow down the workers’ progress. Finally, he mentioned he had something of a mystery for the heroes to solve. Every month, the waters of the Petal River became foul and unfit to drink for one day. While he could easily plan for the corruption and stockpile water, Gyrad was worried that it might be only one symptom of a deeper problem. The next occurrence of the event happens in seven days, should the heroes wish to investigate.
