Living just 8 miles south of Fort Thorn, a small pack of owlbears laired in hills on the forest’s edge. They had been spotted numerous times by the scouts, and their range, while concentrated south of the fort, seemed to grow by the day. Learning of the foul-tempered creatures, Sir Tolgrith tasked the heroes with tracking them down and eliminating them. The heroes located the lair when they were within 2 miles of its location. The Approach.  In the side of a small hill, a yawning cave entrance was visible. Numerous large brown feathers lay scattered on the ground and within the trees nearby. The area outside the cave was lightly wooded with scattered rose bushes. Living Cave.  This broad cave was lit from above through a natural chimney. Off to one side stood a filthy pool of stagnant water. The scent of wet fur and bird droppings hung heavily in the air, and feathers littered  the ground. Vermin: Vermin include insects, arachnids, other arthropods, worms, and similar invertebrates. They are mindless and thus immune to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms). Vermin have darkvision. They breathe, eat, and sleep.

When the king was threatened, the sprites fought to the death. The King of Roses did not know defeat and also fought to the death. The plates and silverware on the table were made of gold and worth 500 gp as a set. In addition, the 8 bottles of wine on the table were a special fey wine worth 50 gp per bottle. The pool of water at the nursery glistened because of all of the silver coins and other shiny trinkets tossed inside. In total, there were 3,400 sp in the pond and another 200 gp worth of small silver trinkets such as silverware, lockets, goblets, bracelets, and necklaces. All of the coins bore the markings of the Empire of Cheliax (making them several hundred years old). The trees moved to attack the nearest foe each round.   The animated trees fought to the death. Entry Hall.  The natural stone steps led down more than thirty feet before ending in a small chamber with a low ceiling. An elegant pair of oak double doors stood closed opposite the stairs, with a much plainer door off to the side. This entry hall opened into the underground lair of the roseblood sprites. Each of these chambers had unworked stone walls and 7-foot-high ceilings. Phosphorescent fungus that grew in patches on the walls and ceiling lighted all the rooms. Intricate carvings covered the double doors to the north, showing a field of rose bushes being tended by a single regal roseblood sprite with a crown on his brow. Construct:  A construct is an animated object or artificially created creature. They have low-light vision. They have darkvision. They have immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms). They have immunity to bleed, disease, death effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning. They cannot heal damage on their own, but often can be repaired via exposure to a certain kind of effect or through the use of the Craft Construct feat. Constructs can also be healed through spells such as make whole . A construct may have the fast healing special quality. They are not subject to ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, energy drain, or nonlethal damage. They have immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless). A construct cannot be raised or resurrected. Constructs do not breathe, eat, or sleep.

Rosewood Armor: This suit of leather armor is wrapped in special rose vines. Anyone grappling with a creature wearing rosewood armor takes 1d4 points of piercing damage per round. This damage can be prevented by taking a –10 penalty on the grapple check. The rose vines must be watered with at least 1 gallon of water each day or they wither and die, turning the armor into normal leather armor. This armor acts like leather armor in every other way and costs 50 gp. Thorn: These small arrows are tipped with a wicked rose thorn and fletched with lacquered rose petals. Thorn Bracer: These sturdy leather bracers are studded with lacquered rose thorns that can be used to pierce foes. You can attack with these bracers even while holding objects in your hands. When attacking with thorn bracers, you lose any shield bonus to AC gained from a readied shield until your next action. Transmutation Level: Rgr 3, Drd 4 Components: V, S, M, DF This spell functions just like the spell snare but those caught in it take 1 point of damage per round, as the thorn-covered vine slowly cuts into them. In addition, any attempt to escape or destroy the snare deals 1d6 damage to the trapped creature. A thorn snare can only be found with a DC 24 Perception check. A trapped creature can escape by making a DC 24 Escape Artist check or a DC 24 Strength check as a full-round action. Material Component: A length of bloodthorn rose vine.

Magical Beasts:  Magical beasts are similar to animals (some know at least one language, but can’t necessarily speak). Magical beasts usually have supernatural or extraordinary abilities, but are sometimes merely bizarre in appearance or habits. They have darkvision. They have low-light vision. Magical beasts breathe, eat, and sleep.
