Tirana's Lair, Part 10 (Desnus (V) 2nd-9th, 4709 AR)

The Wishing Well.  When Gryxxa fell in the pool of lava she took fire damage. The red dragon was hard pressed, and he asked Surnom for a  prismatic spray which killed Aranthor. He also tried to push vulnerable heroes into the lava pool. The red dragon fought until slain. Surnom granted the red dragon's wishes. He fought to the death. A small pile of 150 platinum pieces and 67 gp, a +1 ghost touch mace and a stone of alarm lay in a corner, covered by a heat-damaged tapestry weighing 40 pounds and depicting another red dragon terrorizing a countryside. After this encounter the heroes exited the dungeon and visited the Temple of Abadar in Kaer Maga in order to raise Aranthor. After he recuperated from his ordeal, they returned to the dungeon. Summoning Rift.  Beyond the door’s arch, a yawning crack in the stone floor slices a jagged scar across the chamber’s stone floor. Acrid yellow smoke billows from the depths of that strange abyss, while tongues of black flame flicker from th

Outsider: An outsider is at least partially composed of the essence (but not necessarily the material) of some plane other than the Material Plane. Outsiders have darkvision. Unlike most living creatures, an outsider does not have a dual nature — its soul and body form one unit. When an outsider is slain, no soul is set loose. Spells that restore souls to their bodies, such as raise dead , reincarnate , and resurrection , don’t work on an outsider. A different magical effect, such as limited wish , wish , miracle , or true resurrection , is required to restore it to life. A native outsider can be raised, reincarnated, or resurrected just as other living creatures can be. Outsiders breathe, but do not need to eat or sleep (although they can do so if they wish). Native outsiders breathe, eat, and sleep. Extraplanar:  Extraplanar is any creature when it is on a plane other than its native plane. A creature that travels the planes can gain or lose this subtype as it goes from plane

The heroes continued their exploration. Gallery of Stone.  This corridor is lined with alcoves containing statues of different breeds of humanoids, their faces contorted with horror. Many of the statues are missing limbs and other protuberances, and the floor is littered with cracked and shattered bits of stonework, as well as entire statues pulled down from their pedestals or seemingly deposited on the floor without ever having an intentional placement. This room was a den for a pair of cockatrices and their caretakers. Every square in this section of the hall is considered rough terrain. A pair of pet cockatrices has built a nest among the crumbling remains of statues. Two naunet proteans served as bodyguards. The cockatrices were quick to attack the heroes when they entered the long hallway, attempting to hide behind broken statues and darting out to use their petrifying bites to add to their collection. Once battle was joined, the cockatrices stayed out of the way and let the naune

Magical Beast: Magical beasts are similar to animals (some know at least one language, but can’t necessarily speak). Magical beasts usually have supernatural or extraordinary abilities, but are sometimes merely bizarre in appearance or habits. They have darkvision. They have low-light vision. The heroes continued their exploration. Pistoned Ochre Jelly.  This plain stone room is unremarkable save for a dark rectangular pit that occupies the center of its tiled floor. A thick metal grating coated with a thin veneer of rust covers the top of the shaft, leaving only a few inches between each bar. The shaft in the center was 50 feet deep and lightless, making it hard to see the two jellies that lingered below. The grating itself was mortared in place and could support weight. As soon as the heroes stepped adjacent to the gratings the room begun to shake and rumble as the stone floor at the bottom of the shaft pistoned upward to a point just below the grating and stopped, forcing the two ochre jellies lounging at the bottom to squirt through the narrow holes in the gratings.  The two ochre jellies propelled into the room by the piston trap immediately attacked the heroes. The oozes were straightforward fighters, grappling the heroes.   The oozes fought until destroyed. In additi

Ooze: An ooze is an amorphous or mutable creature, usually mindless. If they are mindless they have immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). They are blind (but have blindsight), with immunity to gaze attacks, visual effects, illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight. They have immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning. Some oozes have the ability to deal acid damage to objects. They are not subject to critical hits or flanking. They do not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack. Oozes eat and breathe, but do not sleep.

The heroes continued their exploration. A River Runs Through It.  The water pouring into this room is contaminated. The water disrupted the flesh of the heroes the first time they were completely immersed in it. The creatures that lived in this room seemed to be immune. The waterfall occupied the area of the channel closest to the western wall. The creatures used the dangerous water to their advantage, grappling the heroes and then entering the water. The creatures fought to the death to defend their home. The bottom of the channel was the creatures' nest, which included several noteworthy items, including a brooch of shielding (94 points left), a belt of incredible dexterity +2, a searing arrow and 5 gp. Floating Staircase.  The door here opens into empty space within an enormous cylinder twenty-five feet across. Narrow stone blocks float magically in the tube’s center, unconnected and unsupported, creating a spiral staircase to the floor sixty feet below. Standing on or moving
